Here you will find how Matlock aided the war effort from 1939 to 1945. Much of this material was gathered by the late Peter Attwater, a member of Matlock Civic Association since its beginning. Peter lived in Matlock during WW 2 and had first hand experience of these activities. The information was published in the Matlock Mercury as an eight page feature called “The Defence of Britain Project” and forms part of the large national archaeology project “Defence of Britain Archive” (2002 & 2006). Local records have been saved and are now stored at Derbyshire Records Office.
